As you can see below, sometimes advertising is about pushing the limit. Many of these ads are successful solely because of their creativity. Some are dependent on setting. Some are dependent on atmosphere. Regardless, all of them have an attention getting factor. I have included some descriptions beneath each image.
| This ad plays on emotion. It incorporates pathos to get its point across. The message is that society should reduce pollution and waste. |
| This ad is clever because it uses its surroundings to convey the message. It is obvious that this enormous razor was not responsible for cutting the grass. Nevertheless, the ad is making the point that these razors can provide a good cut. |
| This advertisement uses an image that can intentionally be construed in two different ways. The first is the pair of hands holding the cell phone. The second is the Great Wall of China, as the ad announces that AT&T now reaches to China. |
| Yet again, this ad relies entirely on setting and its surroundings. The glass wall constricting consumers from the vehicle provides the figuaritve barrier between you and adventure. All you have to do to experience something adventurous is purchase the car. |
| This advertisement uses an out-of-the-box way of thinking. It incorporates ethos and logos to convey an exaggerated point: society need not be wasteful. The ethos is at work because people who care about being green will be more likely to take note of this sign. Also, the logos is having to grasp the message and understand the sign's point. |
| This sign displays creative thinking and configuring. The advertisement wants you to get out of the sun and go visit an outside vendor. With its positioning, when the sun beats down on it you can read its message on the ground. It took careful calculation to make this ad and therefore incorporates logos. |
| Using the puddle of polish as the actual base that holds the statue up, this advertisement is clever and unexpected. It is a life-sized bottle of nail polish and intends to draw you in with the shock factor. |
| Ironically using other people as part of the advertisement, this call for flea medication is a unique attention getter. |
By including the appeals, ethos, pathos, and logos, these advertisements all send a loud message. They incorporate unexpected factors to procure consumers’ attention. The think-outside-the-box mentality is needed to succeed in advertising. By considering other elements besides just black and white general advertising, you will be set apart from other companies.
